Privacy Policy
What personal information this tutoring service collects, why, and what you can ask me to do with it.
Who I am
I'm Sinéad Scully, an independent IB English tutor based in Dubai,United Arab Emirates. I provide one-to-one online tutoring and I am the person responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach me at [email protected].
What I collect
Depending on how far you get in the process, that may include:
- When you book a consultation: the parent or guardian's name and email address, and whatever you choose to tell me about your child's year group, course and goals.
- When you become a client: the student's first name and year group, the school and IB course they're taking, and session notes and feedback I write after each session.
- Work you send me: essays, drafts and assignments shared for feedback.
- Payment records: the amount, date and what it was for. I do not see or store your full card details — those go directly to the payment provider.
- Website analytics and advertising measurement: how you reached this page, which parts of it you looked at, and whether you came from one of my adverts. This is handled by Google Analytics and Google Ads — see Cookies and measurement below.
Why I collect it
- To hold the consultation and decide together whether I'm a good fit.
- To deliver sessions, prepare for them, and give useful feedback.
- To take payment and keep the records I'm required to keep.
- To reply when you contact me.
I do not sell personal information, and I do not share what you tell me — your name, your child's details, or work sent to me for feedback — with anyone for their own marketing. Website measurement and advertising are a separate matter, and are described underCookies and measurement.
Students under 18
Most of my students are minors. I take bookings and instructions from a parent or legal guardian, not from the student directly, and I only collect what I need to teach: a first name, year group, course, and the work being reviewed. I don't ask students for personal details beyond that, and I don't contact a student outside the arrangements agreed with their parent or guardian. If you'd like to see or delete anything I hold about your child, ask me and I'll do it.
Who else is involved
A small number of services handle information on my behalf. Each has its own privacy policy, and I've kept the list as short as I reasonably can:
- Google Meet — delivering the sessions themselves.
- Google Drive — sharing documents, drafts and written feedback with you.
- Gmail — correspondence.
- Calendly — consultation and session scheduling.
- Google Analytics and Google Ads — website measurement and advertising, covered in full underCookies and measurement.
- A card payment provider — processing payments.
Before launch: name the card payment provider here. It is the only processor on this list still described generically, and a vague third-party list is the most common weakness in a privacy policy.
Where information is stored
I'm based in the UAE, and some of the services above store data on servers outside it. Where that happens, I rely on those providers' own safeguards for international transfers. If you'd like to know where a particular piece of information sits, ask me.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don't turn into tutoring are deleted within twelve months. Session notes and student work are kept while I'm teaching your child and for twelve months afterwards, in case you come back. Payment records are kept for as long as UAE tax and accounting rules require. You can ask me to delete anything sooner and I will, unless I'm legally required to keep it.
Cookies and measurement
Two Google services run on this site, and both set cookies:
- Google Analytics — counts visits and shows me which parts of the page people actually read, so I can improve it. It tells me how the site is used, not who you are.
- Google Ads — measures whether an advert led to an enquiry, and may show my adverts to people who have visited before.
Nothing else here sets a cookie. There are no social media pixels, no other advertising networks and no session recording.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, both are switched off before the page loads. This site tells Google to store nothing until you consent, and it does not currently ask for consent — so no analytics or advertising cookies are set for you at all. Everywhere else they are on by default.
You can opt out from anywhere: install Google'sAnalytics opt-out add-on, turn off personalised advertising in yourGoogle Ad Settings, or block cookies in your browser. None of it affects the tutoring.
Scheduling and video pages you are sent to are run by the third parties above and set their own cookies — their policies cover those.
Your rights
You can ask me at any time to:
- tell you what information I hold about you or your child;
- give you a copy of it;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete it;
- stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email [email protected] and I'll respond within 30 days. There's no charge.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I'll update the date at the top of this page and tell existing clients by email.
